Captain Lu Rodas

Growing up in South Florida along the coast line, Captain Lu knew from an early age that being on and near the ocean was his favorite place to be.

Competing in local surf tournaments since the age of 13, and rigging baits every summer on the head fishing boats while in high school Capt Lu quickly realized the ocean was his temple and playground.

After graduating high school early, Capt Lu enlisted in the US Navy where he trained and served as both a Damage Control man (firefighter) and a SAR Search and Rescue Swimmer. Stationed at Little Creek Virginia less than 10 minutes from Virginia Beach, Capt Lu continued to surf and fish every chance he had.

Upon completing his commitment of service in 2000, Capt Lu returned to South Florida and became a USCG master licensed captain where he continue to pursue his passion of the ocean.

As president of the Trespass Surf Club, he organized monthly meetings, beach cleanups, tournaments, and most importantly beach advocacy. His passion for the ocean enabled him to organize and help found the Surfrider Foundation Broward County Chapter and later founded and organized the Surfer for Autism nonprofit organization which enables autistic children and their families a day of surfing with hundreds of volunteers and sponsors.

Captain Lu has spearheaded and been part of some amazing fishing television shows like the “Classic and Classy Sportfishing adventures” where the emphasis of each episode was about a certain species fish and style of fishing while the sponsor’s products where used while restoring a classic 52′ Buddy Davis Sportfish. All the while, Lu was fishing a 3 year competitive tournament series throughout South Florida, the Florida keys & the Bahamas.

Captain Lu‘s passion is shared across South Florida at the many seminars he host at various bait and tackle shops or your local West Marine store. Teaching for Lu isn’t just about engaging an audience, but about passing on knowledge as the old salts did for him.

Capt Lu thrives on seeing the faces of the young ones eager to learn new things, new techniques, and to hear and share fish stories as he is extremely passionate to try new things, learn new techniques and explore new places.

Capt Lu feels the Rebel Soul is an extension of himself. The work never stops, and the adventure is just beginning. Not only are Captain Lu‘s 5 P’s (Proper preparation prevents poor performance) always being put in place, but are always thinking outside the box with the renovation and restoration of the beautiful and beamy 1987 classic.

“I’m proud to be part of history as one of the few surviving Donzi Z65 open sportfisherman still on the water today. Not only is she a home away from home to the owners, she’s also a luxury charter sportfish yacht catering throughout South Florida, the Florida keys, and the Bahamas.

Fishing is my passion and getting our clients into fishing is so rewarding to me. I hope you join us on this amazing adventure.”
